Our
new white chairs cost around $35 for the set of 6. I used Rustoleum Heirloom White from Home Depot ($3.44 a can, we used 6 cans). The fabric was on clearance from Hancock Fabric. $5.00 a yard and we used 3 yards to cover 6 chairs.
Here is a picture of what the chairs used to look like. You can't tell from the photo but the varnish stuff had worn off and the chairs were very worn.
Helpful Hints if you're in the mood to re-do:
- Use several light coats of spray paint instead of one massive heavy coat
- It helps avoid drips
- Don't think too much about what you're doing
- Hold the can about 10 inches from your chair, I kept forgetting that part
- Don't talk to any men about your idea
- They'll try to give you smack about sanding, a process, yada yada yada
- You don't have to sand...it's in the Bible I'm pretty sure

- Girl, get off here and go grab your can and get cracking

I love them. They look kinda Dutch-ish. We had our chairs recovered (by a professional b/c there ain't no way we know anything about it) for a lot of money. Of course, they're vintage 70s, and supposedly redo-ing the chairs will improve the resale (seeing how the vinyl was peeling off and there was fluff ALL over the floor). I admire your upholstery skillz.
