What chores do you your children do and what are there ages?
I hope you will stop back by on Monday because there are some very exciting things about keeping house that we're going to be talking about.
In the meantime, I'm very curious to hear how you handle chores at your house.

Hmmm
ages: 5, 8, 10 (all boys)
They all make beds, pick up house/toys, brush teeth, pick up bathroom, put dirty clothes in hamper, etc.
The older 2 also unload dishwasher everyday, dust and windex once a week, feed dog, rake leaves, rinse plates, etc. The ten year old hangs up his clean clothes...and I am going to work on the 8 year old for that too.
This summer, when more time is upon us, I will teach the 5 year old to dust (with a swiffer duster and his brother can come along behind him with the polish and cloth)...he does it now, but not so much the right way. And I will increase the older boys' chores to bathroom cleaning and vaccumming and loading the dishwasher correctly.
The goal is to one day turn this ship over to them completely! (Well, maybe not, but at least I can tell their future wives that they know how to help when needed!)
I know this isn't in the questions...but these things (chores) are all expected...as a contribution to being a member of the family. If they want to earn money for something special, they have to think outside the box of what is typically allowed of them. We want them to know they don't get paid for everything in life...some things are just necessary.
Well, let' see... Anna's job is to keep sticking the paci in Sarah's mouth when she fusses so I can get some work done. :)
Actually, Anna puts away her toys and some of her laundry (the stuff she can reach). That's about it at this age.
My girls have to make their beds every morning, put away their dirty clothes, clean their rooms, and feed/water the dog. Then occasionally I have them help me with dusting, folding laundry, etc.
Well, being a new step mom to an 8 year old, I am the meanie for asking him to put his dirty clothes in his hamper, straighten his mess in the bathroom (ie. hang up his towel), and pick up his room. These are all things his single dad was not making him do so it's all new for him. I will be checking back to see just what other moms are expecting out of 8 year old little boys :)
You girls are awesome! Thank you for answering this question. We will be coming back to this post in the days and weeks to come.
I'm a little late to the party, but what's new? IRL I like to be on time. But when it comes to blog parties I'm always behind. :)
7, 10, 11
They all clean out the dishwasher. They are responsible for their own bedrooms, care for the animals (still need reminded most days on that one), and clean off the table after dinner.
Each day my two oldest get a list for schoolwork and on that list is a different job for the day. They like the variety and I get things done from them that normally might get a "sigh" response. For some reason, when it is on the list, they do it without complaint. Those jobs range from wiping off the kitchen cabinet doors, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping the porch, cleaning the bathroom, etc...
Pretty much the only household chores that they are not ready for (in my opinion) are: mopping, cooking meals, laundry
They fold laundry, but I still handle the soap n' such.
My 7 year old (along with the older girls) is responsible for putting away his clean clothes, hanging up his wet bath towel (still working on that one), and setting the table. Sometimes he dusts, but I have to remind myself that his attention to detail isn't like his older siblings yet. :)
